About

Where we came from and where we’re headed

Building Resilience for Public Health

Mission

Comprehensively monitor and model interconnected climate and epidemiological stressors so as to be able to provide early warnings, tailored recommendations for adaptation measures, and vital support for informed policymaking, all aimed at safeguarding public health.

Vision

The AURORA project constitutes an innovative research initiative in forecasting and preventing climate change’s impacts on one-health framework, with a primary focus on the EU Boreal region.

Objectives

Climate monitoring, which involves vigilant surveillance of climate factors with the potential to impact environmental, animal, and human health.

Simulation Engine  • Data-driven Risk Assessment and Early Warning System • AI-based Decision Support and Recommendation Engine

Obj 01
  • Enhance short- and long-term insights pertaining to the health consequences of climate-induced stressors by conducting a comprehensive multi-scope analysis, which includes the examination of the influence of climate change on the One Health concept.

Demo and replicant cities

AURORA consortium, with its vast experience in research projects, envisions active engagement with stakeholders throughout all project stages via Implementation Hub. This engagement aims to foster behavioral change and showcase the project's solutions in 5 Demo cities (Riga, Tallinn, Vilnius, Tampere, Pori) and 3 replicant cities (Klaipeda, Joniskis, Jurmala).

  • Strengthen current epidemiological surveillance, modelling and forecasting capacity induced by climate change through the co-design and -development of 1) a climatic and epidemiological observatory, 2) appropriate models encompassing all socio-economic aspects and adaptation scenarios, and 3) userfriendly forecasting tools.

Obj 02
  • Improve preventive policy-making and health system’s preparedness ahead of climate change by 1) co-implementing a holistic Decision Support system that entails early-warning and -response, and 2) assessing and predicting the effectiveness and health impact of mitigation solutions, including nature-based ones.

Obj 03
  • Demonstrate and validate the effectiveness of the AURORA toolset in 5 major Baltic cities (Riga, Vilnius, Tallinn, Tampere, Pori) and replicate its results in 3 participating municipalities (Klaipeda, Jurmala, Joniskis).

and climate models

  • Early Warning Engine

The systems provides early warnings to the users when and epidemiological event of high impact is likely to occur.

    Scenario Builder

Build complex ‘what if’ scenarios based on the epidemiological and climate models developed and enables users’ customisation and training.

    Recommendation Engine

Provides the health and other policy makers with targeted recommendations on the adaptation, NBS and mitigation measures to be implemented for the city/town, region of concern.

    Risk Assessment

Assesses the risks associated with the One-health, social and economical impacts of climate change resulting from the simulation.

    3D Simulation Environment

The environment in which the various scenarios and adaptations are simulated.

  • Accelerate the adoption of AURORA solutions and maximise their impact through an efficient dissemination, communication, liaison, training and exploitation activities.
